Spanish classes are starting to pay off... Maybe!

Well, I think I may have done it! I finally feel like I can speak Spanish without always having to think in English. This sounds like a very weird thing to say. But, I realized today that I can talk in Spanish without really thinking about it. I don't now consider myself fluent or anything like that. And, it doesn't happen all of the time but sometimes it just "flows." It was a small accomplishment today when I was talking to a lady on the bus and when I got off I couldn't remember if we had just talked in Spanish or in English because I hadn't been thinking about it.

I also have started to catch myself saying things in English how I would say them in Spanish which is a very weird concept. For example, in Spanish when you are hungry you say, "Tengo hambre." Or, literally, "I have hunger." This week I was telling my friend during class that I was hungry and I said, in English, "I have hunger." We both looked at each other and just started laughing. I think my brain is linguistically confused!

So, maybe all of these Spanish classes that I have been taking since the first grade, (wow, that is like 13 years, of course the years of a certain teacher don't really count because she was just not good) well, maybe all of these classes are starting to pay off.
